Rainfall is anticipated to persist across Odisha in the coming two days due to an active cyclonic circulation affecting the region, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This weather pattern is likely to mirror the rainfall seen during the Shree Gundicha Yatra, potentially impacting the Bahuda Yatra involving Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
On Tuesday, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for 20 districts, alerting residents to the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms in various areas of the state.
Heavy Rain Forecast for Multiple Districts
Heavy rain is expected in districts such as Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
The weather office also indicated that both northern and coastal regions of Odisha may experience significant rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, with isolated heavy showers likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
Thunderstorm Alerts in 12 Districts
The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms, which may come with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. This alert covers the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balasore, and Bhadrak.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore, where thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds could occur.
IMD’s Seven-Day Weather Outlook
Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, shared that light to moderate rainfall is forecasted across various parts of Odisha over the next week. However, some regions, especially Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, could see heavy to very heavy rainfall.
She noted that several coastal districts are also likely to experience rain, accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40-50 km/h in isolated areas.

With large crowds expected for the Bahuda Yatra in Puri, devotees and travelers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather updates, bring rain gear, and adhere to guidance from local authorities and disaster management officials.
