BHUBANESWAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a new low-pressure system has emerged over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, leading to predictions of significant rainfall across Odisha for the upcoming two days. Some regions are also likely to experience intense downpours during this time.
The national weather agency reported that an upper air cyclonic circulation developed over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjacent southern Bangladesh on Tuesday, resulting in the formation of a low-pressure area off the northern Odisha-West Bengal coast at approximately 5:30 AM.
According to the IMD, this system is anticipated to evolve into a well-defined low-pressure area, moving northwest across northern Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal over the next two days.
Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, indicated that the weather phenomenon will have the most substantial impact on Thursday and Friday.
The regional meteorological office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj, with isolated areas in 13 districts also expected to receive significant rainfall on Thursday.
