Concerns have arisen regarding the death of Khageswar Parua, a 29-year-old resident of Cheliapada village in the Jharsuguda district, who was discovered hanging from a tree close to the village kirtan mandap late Sunday night.
Law enforcement officials are looking into whether the circumstances surrounding his death indicate suicide or potential foul play.
Reports indicate that Khageswar participated in Rath Yatra celebrations in Dhuruadihi village earlier that day and returned home in the evening. He left his residence again around 8 pm but did not come back. His family initiated a search, ultimately finding his lifeless body suspended from a tree.
Personnel from the Bagdihi police outpost, along with a forensic team from Jharsuguda, arrived at the scene, gathered forensic evidence, and arranged for the body to be examined postmortem. Subsequently, the body was returned to the family.
The situation has raised eyebrows, particularly because while the rope was around his neck, the lower part of his body was reportedly in contact with the ground. This discrepancy has led to speculation regarding whether his death was self-inflicted or if it was staged.
The police have filed an unnatural death case and have indicated that the definitive cause of death will be established following the postmortem and forensic evaluations.
