Bhubaneswar: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall intensity in Odisha is expected to decrease for two days starting Sunday, following which it will intensify across various regions of the state.
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated to persist for the next 24 hours, with several districts experiencing thunderstorms until the morning of September 15. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain that will remain in effect until the morning of September 18.
In a weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has flagged a yellow warning for heavy rainfall affecting the districts of Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri over the next day.
During this period, thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (with speeds reaching 30-40 km/h), are expected in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
On September 13-14, the weather agency had already issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada. Similar weather conditions are predicted for several districts on September 14-15.
Furthermore, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in the districts of Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj on September 15-16. A similar warning is in effect for Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj on September 16-17, while heavy rain is expected in Mayurbhanj on September 17-18.
