Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Odisha is expected to continue experiencing heavy rainfall over the next three days. This weather pattern is attributed to a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation in the westcentral Bay of Bengal to the northeast Arabian Sea, affecting southern Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
In its midday update, the IMD stated that on July 20, heavy rain could be expected in several districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h are anticipated in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
On July 21, heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Sundargada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, with Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Sundargada also likely to see significant rain on June 22. Thunderstorm conditions with similar wind speeds are predicted for the same districts on these dates.
Furthermore, thunderstorms may continue in Sundargada, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda on June 23. While no warnings are projected beyond this period, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur intermittently across the state in the following five days.
