Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Wednesday that several regions in Odisha will likely see persistent rainfall due to a low-pressure system.
For today, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapada, where isolated areas may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms with lightning are also anticipated in these regions.
Furthermore, a yellow warning has been issued for additional districts including Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangapur. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
The ongoing low-pressure system is projected to sustain active monsoon conditions in the state, with rain and thundershowers likely persisting until July 26.
Residents in the districts under the orange alert are urged to stay vigilant regarding potential waterlogging, flash floods in low-lying areas, and damage to crops due to the heavy rains. Motorists are advised to be cautious of decreased visibility and slippery roads during thunderstorms.
