Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Wednesday that a low-pressure area is anticipated to form in the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 19.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently situated over northern Thailand, extending up to 7.6 kilometers above sea level. This system is projected to shift to the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18, with a low-pressure area likely developing in the same region shortly thereafter.
As the system progresses, it is expected to gradually strengthen while moving west-northwest toward the southern coasts of Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh over the next three to four days.
This evolving weather pattern is anticipated to affect conditions in Odisha over the next week.
The IMD has not yet specified the future intensity of the system or its precise trajectory, nor has it confirmed whether the low-pressure area might develop into a cyclonic storm.
In its midday weather update, the IMD issued a yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms across various districts in Odisha for the upcoming five days.
Within the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall is expected in Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, and Gajapati districts.
Additionally, thunderstorms, along with lightning and strong winds, may occur in districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
On September 17-18, thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h are likely in several districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
From September 18 to 19, Baleshwar, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj are expected to see heavy rain, while thunderstorms may bring gusty winds of 30-40 km/h to various districts.
Between September 19 and 20, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam, accompanied by thunderstorms in several other districts.
On September 20-21, heavy rain may occur in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in parts of Odisha.
