Bhubaneswar: Odisha is gearing up for significant rainfall, ranging from heavy to extremely heavy, forecasted to last until July 17. This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure system anticipated to form over the northern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coasts of Bangladesh within the next day, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Bhadrak districts, while an orange alert has been placed for Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Jajpur, Khordha, Puri, Kataka, Nayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamala. The expected intense rainfall is likely to cause widespread flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, closure of underpasses, and potential landslides or mudslides in areas prone to such events. Additionally, the adverse weather conditions may lead to damage to unpaved roads, vulnerable structures, and adversely affect standing crops and horticulture.
From July 14 to 18, squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 km/h, occasionally reaching gusts of up to 60 km/h, is expected to affect the Odisha coast.
