Bhubaneswar: The effects of Cyclone Arnab continue to be felt in Odisha as rainfall persists across the state. On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced an orange alert for three districts.

Western Odisha is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and strong winds in various regions.

Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh districts are under the orange warning, with isolated areas possibly receiving up to 20 cm of rain. Residents should prepare for thunderstorms and gusty winds that could reach speeds of 60 km/h. Authorities have urged people in these districts to stay vigilant, as heavy rains may disrupt daily activities.

The IMD has also indicated that heavy rain could occur in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balangir, Nuapada, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Balasore districts, with isolated locations in these areas likely to see rainfall between 7 cm and 11 cm.

No specific warnings for heavy rainfall have been issued for several districts in coastal, central, and southern Odisha, such as Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Malkangiri. However, scattered showers may still occur, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms in some locations.

Wind speeds of 30-40 km/h are anticipated in certain districts, while gusty winds could reach 50 km/h. In some areas, winds may blow at speeds of 40-50 km/h, with gusts hitting up to 60 km/h.

The warning will be in effect from 8:30 am on Thursday until 8:30 am on Friday, October 30. The IMD has cautioned that ongoing heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying regions and potential disruptions. Residents, especially in western and northern Odisha, are advised to remain cautious and adhere to official weather updates.
