Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various districts of Odisha until September 25, influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation forming over northern Thailand. This circulation is expected to emerge in the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18, with a low-pressure area likely to develop in that region on the evening of September 19.
In addition, the IMD has issued an orange alert for 15 districts in Odisha, anticipating thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds. This alert is effective until 8:30 AM on September 19.
The IMD’s forecast, valid until 8:30 AM tomorrow, indicates that Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds reaching up to 40-50 km/h.
Moreover, heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two locations within Mayurbhanj district, which has been issued a yellow warning. Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds up to 30-40 km/h are also expected in certain areas of Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
As per the IMD’s prediction, valid from 8:30 AM on September 19 to 8:30 AM on September 20, heavy rain is likely in one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also forecasted for the aforementioned districts.
For the period from 8:30 AM on September 20 to 8:30 AM on September 21, thunderstorms with similar conditions are expected in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada, all of which are under yellow alert.
On Day 4, from 8:30 AM on September 21 to 8:30 AM on September 22, yellow alerts for thunderstorms will also be in place for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendrapada, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
On Day 5, from 8:30 AM on September 22 to 8:30 AM on September 23, the IMD has issued an orange warning for Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam, predicting thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching up to 40-50 km/h.
The IMD continues to maintain its orange warning for several districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall until September 25.
