The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a low-pressure system is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal by September 10, which will bring rainfall to Odisha for the next seven days.

A yellow warning has been issued for the state, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h in various districts.

  • YELLOW WARNING: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are expected in one or two locations across Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
  • Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are also likely throughout all districts in Odisha.

Day 2 (Valid from 8:30 AM on September 7 to 8:30 AM on September 8):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Similar thunderstorms and winds are anticipated in the same districts as Day 1.
  • Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected across all districts.

Day 3 (Valid from 8:30 AM on September 8 to 8:30 AM on September 9):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds will likely occur at one or two places in several districts.
  • Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are predicted at various locations in all districts.

Day 4 (Valid from 8:30 AM on September 9 to 8:30 AM on September 10):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rainfall is forecasted for one or two areas in Baleshwar, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
  • Thunderstorms and winds are expected in several districts along with light to moderate rain.

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rainfall is likely in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kataka, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
