Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted significant rainfall along with thunderstorms in various regions of Odisha over the next five days, as announced on Sunday.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms featuring lightning and gusty winds across numerous areas in the state. Heavy rainfall is expected specifically in the Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts within the next 24 hours.
In its midday weather update, the IMD noted that thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind speeds of 30-40 km/h could affect one or two locations in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh on Monday.
Furthermore, heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two areas within Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj. Additionally, hot and humid conditions are expected in isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
From July 13 to 14, heavy rainfall is also predicted at one or two locations across the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, and Rayagada, prompting the IMD to issue another yellow warning for these areas.
The Meteorological Centre has urged residents to remain vigilant during thunderstorms and to take appropriate safety measures against lightning and strong winds.
Citizens are encouraged to stay indoors during thunderstorm events, avoid seeking shelter under trees, keep away from electric poles and water bodies, and adhere to weather advisories from local authorities.
