Bhubaneswar: After the low-pressure system has moved away, coastal Odisha is once again enduring hot, muggy, and humid weather, leading to uncomfortable daytime temperatures.
Morning weather data recorded at 8:30 am on Thursday indicates that the coastal regions are experiencing high humidity paired with elevated feel-like temperatures, also known as the heat index.
Puri has reported a temperature of 32.6°C with a humidity level of 81%, resulting in a staggering heat index of 47°C, which makes it feel much hotter than the actual temperature. Similarly, Bhubaneswar is facing comparable conditions, with morning observations showing a temperature of 30.2°C and a humidity level of 78%, causing the perceived temperature to rise to 38°C.
Forecasters predict that these hot and humid conditions will persist across coastal Odisha throughout the day, leading to continued discomfort for residents. People are urged to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated during the hottest parts of the day.
While rainfall is expected to remain light for the next two days, a surge in precipitation intensity is anticipated starting the morning of August 21. Additionally, several areas in the state may experience thunderstorms.
In a midday weather bulletin released on Wednesday, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) for Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on August 21-22.
On August 22-23, a yellow warning has also been issued for Baleshwar, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts, with a likelihood of thunderstorms and gusty winds occurring in various locations including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
From August 23-24, heavy rainfall may continue in some areas of Baleshwar, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, with thunderstorms and gusty winds also forecasted for the same districts.
On August 24-25, a yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for parts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Heavy rain is predicted for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts from August 25-26.
