Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms affecting multiple districts in Odisha in the upcoming days, attributed to a low-pressure area emerging over South West Bengal and adjacent North Odisha.
On August 9, an Orange alert has been activated for heavy to very heavy rain in specific locations within Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur districts. Additionally, a Yellow alert is in effect for heavy rainfall in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Balangir.
Thunderstorms, along with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, are likely to occur in isolated areas across many districts, impacting both coastal and inland regions.
For August 10, a Yellow alert for heavy rainfall will still be applicable in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h are expected at select locations in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
Similar weather conditions are anticipated to continue on August 11 and 12, with Yellow alerts for heavy rainfall remaining in place for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur, alongside thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in the same districts spanning coastal and interior Odisha.
By August 13, the Yellow alert for heavy rainfall will be restricted to Sundargarh and Kendujhar districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated spots are again forecast for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
On August 14 and 15, only a Yellow alert for heavy rainfall will be issued for one or two locations in Sundargarh and Kendujhar.
Residents in the districts affected are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions due to the anticipated severe weather conditions.
