Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across various regions of Odisha over the coming five days, as a well-marked low-pressure system is expected to traverse north Odisha.
On Tuesday, the weather agency issued orange and yellow alerts for different districts, effective until the morning of September 6.
A special weather bulletin from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar indicates an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj for the next 24 hours.
Moreover, a yellow warning has been issued for districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Anugola, and Sonpur, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h, are predicted for one or two locations in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sonpur.
For September 2-3, a yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued specifically for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Baragarh.
Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h are expected in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Baragarh, while winds of 30-40 km/h are likely in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
From September 4 to 6, yellow warnings continue for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h in districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
Fishermen are advised to refrain from venturing into the sea along and off the North Odisha Coast on September 1 due to forecasts of rough sea conditions and squally weather.
