Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Thursday that several areas in Odisha are expected to experience thunderstorms alongside lightning and strong winds over the next six days.
In light of this weather prediction, the IMD has released yellow alerts (Be Aware) for numerous districts across the state until the morning of July 15.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated in certain locations, leading officials to urge residents and local authorities to stay alert and monitor weather developments closely.
The midday weather bulletin from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar indicated that thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph, may impact areas in Baleshwar and Bhadrak on Friday.
Isolated regions in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh are also expected to experience strong surface winds of up to 40-50 kmph.
Thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
On July 11, similar conditions, including thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, might occur in a few areas within Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagad, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudhagad districts.
The forecast for July 12 includes comparable weather patterns with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph expected in isolated areas of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Similar forecasts are also applicable for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Debagad, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudhagad, and Balangir districts.
On July 14, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may affect Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Debagad, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudhagad, and Balangir districts.
In addition, heavy rainfall is likely in one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj during this period.
On July 15, heavy rain is also expected in one or two locations in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.
The weather agency has urged individuals in the affected regions to take appropriate precautions, particularly those involved in outdoor activities, due to the dangers posed by lightning and strong winds. Farmers and fishermen are also advised to be vigilant regarding the weather.
