Jharsuguda: Every month, a thorough assessment of road safety initiatives in the district is carried out during the final week. This meeting includes essential participants such as district administration representatives, members of the Police Department, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs), and officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Recently, officials from Jharsuguda district underscored the importance of collaboration between departments to reduce accidents and fatalities. Significant topics of conversation included dealing with illegal parking along roads and enhancing checks for overloaded transport vehicles.
In February, the National Highways Authority of India was directed to put in place night lighting and rumble strips in the accident-prone area between Bakshi Chowk and Gandhi Chowk in Brajrajnagar, particularly near H-Katapali School and the hockey stadium. However, five months have passed without any advancements, revealing a concerning delay in implementing these safety measures.
Meetings also addressed the need to eliminate illegal roadside eateries and other encroachments. This route experiences substantial daily traffic, including numerous large trucks, cars, and motorcycles. The corridor accommodates major industrial sites, including a steel plant, MSP plant, and TPSL plant, resulting in a continuous flow of workers during night shifts. Moreover, students face considerable risks while crossing the road, heightening the chances of accidents.
