In Odisha, relentless rainfall has led to tragic outcomes, resulting in the deaths of a three-year-old boy and a woman in two separate incidents involving wall collapses in the Sambalpur and Kendujhar districts.
In Sambalpur, a three-year-old boy named Rajbir Kharsel was fatally injured when a mud wall collapsed at a rented property in the Gobindpur New Colony of Kuchinda. The incident occurred on Sunday when the wall fell during heavy rainfall, burying him underneath. Rajbir was the son of Vivek Kharsel from Gamhapali village, situated in the Pukhrasale panchayat of the Kolabira block.
At the time of the accident, Vivek was working in Jharsuguda, while his wife Ranjulata was at home with Rajbir, living in a house owned by Gitanjali Patra. Locals rushed to help after hearing the collapse and, after a search lasting approximately 45 minutes, they successfully rescued Rajbir. He was transported to Gobindpur Hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
In a separate incident in Kendujhar, a woman named Purnima Mahanta lost her life when a wall at her home fell while she was asleep. Purnima was the wife of Ghasiram Mahanta from Raigudi village, located in the Karanjia panchayat of the Champua block.
These incidents have plunged both communities into mourning, with the families of the victims now appealing for immediate assistance from the government.
