Flight operations at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport have been significantly impacted due to Cyclone Arnab, leading to multiple cancellations as a safety measure.
As of October 28, three incoming IndiGo flights bound for Kolkata were cancelled due to adverse cyclonic weather conditions. Additionally, two outgoing flights operated by the same airline were also affected, disrupting services to various coastal locations.
The cancelled incoming flights included IndiGo flight 6E7434 from Bhubaneswar (BBI), initially scheduled to arrive at 5:10 PM, flight 6E0617 from Vijayawada (VTZ) slated for 7:30 PM, and flight 6E7466 from Jharsuguda (IXR) expected at 8:30 PM.
On the departure front, IndiGo flight 6E0616 to Vijayawada, set to leave Kolkata at 3:45 PM, along with flight 6E7465 to Jharsuguda, which was due for a 5:40 PM departure, were both cancelled. These disruptions were attributed to the ongoing cyclonic activity in the area.
Forecasters predict severe weather and strong winds across the coastal regions, prompting airlines to adjust their flight schedules based on real-time conditions and safety protocols.
Passengers using Kolkata airport are encouraged to confirm their flight statuses with airlines prior to heading to the airport. Those traveling to coastal cities such as Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada should remain vigilant for possible schedule modifications and allow extra travel time due to potential road disruptions.
Airport operations teams and air traffic control are closely monitoring the situation as weather conditions evolve. Further flight operations may be influenced by the cyclone’s strength, wind patterns, and restrictions at destination airports.
Travelers are advised to consult official airline updates regarding cancellations, rescheduling, and flight times, rather than relying solely on their initial booking details.
The level of additional disruption is contingent on the cyclone’s trajectory and the prevailing weather across the impacted regions, prompting travelers to make necessary travel arrangements in advance to minimize inconvenience.
