Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha has ramped up its relief, rescue, response, and restoration initiatives in areas impacted by flooding, as conditions show significant improvement.
While many regions are stabilizing, recent heavy rain in parts of Mayurbhanj has caused localized disruptions, necessitating ongoing vigilance and monitoring by government officials and district administrations.
According to the latest updates from Jajpur, the Dasarathpur block remains significantly affected, with 19 gram panchayats and 62 villages impacted. On Tuesday, approximately 7,745 individuals were reported affected, and 22 relief camps are currently operational.
In Mayurbhanj district, 18 blocks, 48 gram panchayats, and 84 villages have been impacted, along with two wards of Baripada Municipality. A total of 2,763 individuals have been affected, with 2,076 people evacuated. There are 11 relief camps active, providing support to 2,076 beneficiaries.
The relief camps are equipped with essential services such as safe drinking water, sanitation, lighting, medical assistance, and food supplies. Special measures are in place for vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, with essential relief items distributed according to local needs.
To enhance emergency response, a total of 22 response teams have been deployed across Jajpur, Baleshwar, and Mayurbhanj. This includes three ODRAF teams in Jajpur, three in Baleshwar, and a combination of three ODRAF teams and 13 Fire & Emergency Services teams in Mayurbhanj. In total, 157 response teams are currently mobilized to bolster rescue and emergency operations in the affected districts.
A well-defined low-pressure area persists over Gangetic West Bengal and adjacent regions of north coastal Odisha and northwest Bay of Bengal, expected to shift west-northwest across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal within the next 24 hours.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in select areas of Baragada, prompting the weather agency to issue an orange warning. A yellow warning for heavy rain has also been issued for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonpur, Nuapada, and Balangir, with authorities advised to prepare for any potential emergencies. Residents are urged to stay alert to weather updates and seek safe shelter during thunderstorms to avoid lightning hazards.
The Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) is continuously monitoring the situation through the State Emergency Operation Centre, in coordination with District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs).
Overall, the situation remains manageable, with ongoing emphasis on relief, response, restoration, and the safety and welfare of individuals in the affected regions.
