Man Bites Cobra After Accidentally Stepping on It in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: In a strange turn of events, a man reportedly captured and bit a cobra after accidentally stepping on the snake in Karmapada village, located under the Laikera police station, on Sunday night.

The individual, named Dharam Singh Khadia, was subsequently taken to a community health center in the adjacent Sambalpur district, where medical staff confirmed that he was in stable condition.

Khadia recounted that he was en route to a field when he unintentionally stepped on the cobra, which was resting on the road. As the snake lifted its head, he seized it and bit it before discarding it.

“I was on my way to a field when I accidentally stepped on a cobra lying on the road. When the snake raised its head, I caught hold of it. Someone had once told me that if you see a snake, hold it, bite it and throw it away, and the poison will not spread. The snake did not bite me. I just bit it and threw it away. This was a cobra,” Khadia stated.

After the encounter, Khadia felt alarmed and promptly alerted his family. They took him to the Govindpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sambalpur district for medical assistance.

Following initial treatment, healthcare providers confirmed that Khadia’s condition was stable and recommended he stay at the hospital for 24 hours for monitoring.

This unusual event astonished local residents, with many gathering at the scene after hearing about what had occurred.
