On July 3, the Odisha Police reported the destruction of 102,221.615 kg (102.22 metric tonnes) of confiscated cannabis as part of the ongoing National Pre-Trial Drug Destruction Special Drive, initiated under the Nashamukta Odisha Abhijaan.
This initiative, overseen by the State Task Force and the CID Crime Branch, demonstrates the commitment of Odisha Police to eradicate narcotics and enforce the NDPS Act.
Boudh Police spearheaded the effort by eliminating 37,484.885 kg of the drug, while Kandhamala Police achieved their target with 34,245.430 kg destroyed. Malkangiri contributed 8,969.940 kg, followed by Gajapati with 6,671 kg, and Koraput with 6,155.773 kg. Significant contributions also came from districts such as Balangir, Nabarangpur, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, and Ganjam.
Furthermore, districts like Anugola, Khordha, and Raurkela participated in the drive after receiving orders from the Drug Disposal Committee. Anugola destroyed 966 kg, Khordha 400.920 kg, and Raurkela 116.500 kg, which enhanced the overall success of the initiative. Several districts, including Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, SRP Raurkela, and SRP Kataka, successfully completed 100% of their assigned destruction targets.
As of July 3, there remains only 5,528.897 kg of seized cannabis yet to be destroyed. Police units have been instructed to complete the destruction process before the nationwide initiative concludes on July 10.
The Director General of Police, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, reiterated the priority of Odisha Police in tackling drug trafficking and dismantling organized narcotics networks. This achievement further solidifies the state’s determination to establish a drug-free environment in Odisha through the Nashamukta Odisha Abhijaan.
