A troubling situation has arisen in Goa concerning an Odia migrant worker who is reportedly being held against his will.
Rinku Bag, a 25-year-old from Jaladihi village in the Kolabira police jurisdiction of Jharsuguda district, is said to be confined by his employers in Goa.
His father, Madhusudan Bag, has reached out to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, requesting urgent action for his son’s rescue and return to Odisha. In his letter, Madhusudan recounted that Rinku had traveled to Goa nearly two years ago, accompanied by four other young men from their village, after being enticed by a middleman from Sundargarh district. They began working for a fishing company located near Vasco-da-Gama in Zuari, managed by individuals named Bindha and Welcome.
While the other young men returned home after a year, Rinku did not. His family has alleged that the employers have refused to allow his return, withheld his wages, and subjected him to constant surveillance. They reported that attempts to contact the employers resulted in verbal abuse and threats. The family is increasingly concerned that Rinku is enduring both physical and psychological distress.
Madhusudan’s letter appealed for the Chief Minister’s personal involvement in coordinating with the Goa Police to facilitate Rinku’s release. Relatives have expressed their deep worries, stating that the family is overwhelmed by this crisis. They are calling for prompt government intervention to alleviate Rinku’s plight and ensure his safe return.
