Bhubaneswar: The need for increased awareness around pollution prevention among intellectuals and the younger generation, especially Gen Z, was emphasized to promote eco-friendly habits in daily life.
At the 43rd Foundation Day celebration of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) held at Krushi Siksha Sadan, OUAT, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia stated that building a clean and healthy environment necessitates the active participation of all.
Singkhuntia noted, “For the past 43 years, OSPCB has fulfilled its duty toward environmental protection with commitment and transparency. The board has been pivotal in monitoring air quality in major urban and industrial regions, examining water in rivers and other bodies, overseeing industrial waste, and encouraging effective waste management practices.”
These accomplishments showcase the relentless dedication of the board’s engineers, scientists, administrative staff, and field operatives.
During the event, the foundation stones for regional office buildings in Kataka, Koraput, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur were laid through a virtual ceremony. Additionally, a drone-based monitoring system and an AI chatbot were introduced online.
Singkhuntia also launched four publications aimed at enhancing environmental awareness, which included a journal focused on microplastics and nanoplastics, a collection of best environmental practices, a comic addressing water pollution, and a handbook on solid waste management for stakeholders.
The event included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between OSPCB and NALCO Research and Technology Centre (NRTC), Gothapatna, concerning fly ash management.
Various organizations were recognized for their efforts in pollution control and environmental stewardship, with Environment Appreciation Certificates awarded in the categories of industry, mining, and healthcare. An Environment Excellence Award was presented for outstanding performance in the industrial township segment.
