Shares of Vedanta's Divisions Experience Decline After Q1 Reports, Aluminium Stocks Increase

Following their Q1 business updates, shares of Vedanta’s newly demerged entities exhibited mixed performance on the market. Shares of Vedanta Oil & Gas, Vedanta Iron & Steel, and Vedanta Power plummeted up to 8% due to disappointing operational results, while Vedanta Aluminium reported a rise after achieving record production levels.

On Monday, shares of Vedanta Oil & Gas, Vedanta Iron & Steel, and Vedanta Power experienced declines up to 8% as the recent Q1 updates did not meet the expectations of investors on Dalal Street.

In contrast, Vedanta Aluminium saw its shares increase by over 1% on Monday morning. The companies, which were separated from Vedanta earlier this year following a significant demerger, published their Q1 updates after the market closed on Friday.

Vedanta Oil & Gas Q1 Update

Vedanta Oil & Gas shares fell more than 8% to Rs 39.3 on the NSE. This drop followed a report revealing a 17% year-over-year (YoY) decrease in gross oil and gas production, which totaled 7.1 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) for the April-June quarter of FY27, down from 8.5 million boe in the same quarter last year. Compared to the previous quarter, production also fell approximately 4% from 7.3 million boe.

The total working interest also saw a decline of 16% YoY, reaching 4.7 million boe for the period. The company’s largest asset in Rajasthan noted a 15% YoY decrease in average daily gross operated production, which stood at 63.1 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd).

Despite the drop, Vedanta Oil & Gas shares had increased over 20% in the past week and 11% since their listing, with a market capitalization exceeding Rs 15,434 crore.

Vedanta Iron & Steel Q1 Update

Shares of Vedanta Iron & Steel, after previously strong performance, decreased around 5% to Rs 38.5 on the NSE on Monday morning. This decline came after a report of a 4% YoY increase in saleable iron ore production, totaling 2.6 million dry metric tonnes (DMT) in the first quarter of FY27, although this represented a 3% drop from the previous quarter’s 2.7 million DMT.

Production at the Karnataka plant saw a significant drop of 46% YoY, while output at the Goa and Odisha plants surged by 166% and 59%, respectively. Overall steel production rose 4% YoY to 582,000 tonnes during the quarter.

Vedanta Iron & Steel shares have appreciated around 19% in the past week and 84% since their debut, currently boasting a market capitalization of Rs 15,055 crore.

Vedanta Power Q1 Update

Vedanta Power shares fell about 4.5% to Rs 43.67 on the NSE. The company reported a 38% YoY rise in power sales, which reached 5,225 million units in Q1 FY27, compared to 3,784 million units in Q1 FY26. However, this figure represented a 6% decrease from the prior quarter’s sales of 5,530 million units.

Sales at the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant and Meenakshi Energy increased by 14% and 16%, respectively, compared to the previous quarter, but sales at the Sakti Thermal Plant and Jharsuguda Thermal Plant fell by 57% and 23%, respectively.

The decline in sales at the Sakti Thermal Plant was attributed to reduced availability due to a boiler incident on April 14, which adversely affected operations during the quarter.

Vedanta Power shares have increased over 6% in the past week and 7% since being listed.

Vedanta Aluminium Metal Q1 Update

Shares of Vedanta Aluminium Metal climbed more than 1% to Rs 467.85 on the NSE. The company achieved its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production, reaching 632,000 tonnes in Q1 FY27, reflecting a 5% YoY and a 3% quarter-on-quarter increase. Power sales at BALCO rose by 21% YoY, totaling 520 million units during the quarter.

The company remarked, “Progress at the BALCO expansion remains steady, with a measured approach focused on operational stability and efficiency as capacity gradually scales up. The ramp-up is on track for full capacity utilisation by Q4.” Vedanta Aluminium Metal, which was listed as the only large-cap company among the four entities last month, has seen its stock price rise around 3% over the past week, although it has declined over 6% since its listing, currently holding a market capitalization of nearly Rs 1.81 lakh crore.
