Vedanta Aluminium Achieves Record Production of 649,000 Tonnes in Q2

Vedanta Aluminium reported its highest quarterly aluminium production to date in the September 2026 quarter, driven by improved capacity and operational efficiencies.

As of October 6, 2026, the company announced a production increase of five percent, reaching 649,000 tonnes compared to 617,000 tonnes during the same period last year, according to the production statistics from Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd (VAML).

The firm indicated that this milestone was achieved due to output from its new smelter and enhancements made across existing production facilities.

Alumina Production Sees Significant Growth

Additionally, alumina production surged by 37 percent to 895,000 tonnes in the quarter ending September 30, 2026, up from 530,000 tonnes in the previous year.

VAML stated, “We achieved a quarterly alumina production of 895 KT, marking a 37 percent year-on-year increase, fueled by the ramping up and stabilization of our expansion circuit.”

Value-added production also saw a notable rise, climbing 31 percent year-on-year to 432,000 tonnes, largely due to increasing demand from the automotive sector and domestic downstream industries.

Key Operations in Odisha

VAML operates one of the largest alumina refineries globally at Lanjigarh, along with one of the largest aluminium smelters situated in Jharsuguda, Odisha. The company also oversees Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO) in Korba, Chhattisgarh.

With access to captive bauxite and coal resources, as well as nearly 4.5 GW of captive power generation capacity, Vedanta Aluminium is supported by a growing downstream manufacturing ecosystem.

The Vedanta group entity currently accounts for 50 percent of India’s aluminium production and has established a diverse clientele across more than 60 countries worldwide.
