Jharsuguda Police Solve Theft Within 12 Hours, Three Arrested

Jharsuguda: Authorities have arrested three individuals linked to an interstate theft gang operating out of Tamil Nadu, successfully recovering ₹1 lakh stolen from a motorcycle within 12 hours of the incident, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The theft occurred on July 6 when the victim withdrew ₹1 lakh from an HDFC Bank branch and parked his motorcycle near Swadist Hotel at Sunarimunda. The cash was reportedly taken from the vehicle, prompting the filing of a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following instructions from the Superintendent of Police in Jharsuguda, several police teams commenced an investigation that included analyzing CCTV footage, employing technical surveillance, and gathering intelligence, officials noted.

Utilizing the evidence collected, law enforcement apprehended the three suspects and retrieved the full amount of stolen cash, in addition to two motorcycles, two iron T-shaped tools believed to be used in the crime, two mobile phones, two backpacks containing clothes worn during the theft, and other incriminating items.

The suspects have been identified as B. Jeevarathinam (35), C. Babu (44), and P. Zacraiya (45), all hailing from Villivakkam in Chennai district, Tamil Nadu.

Initial investigations indicate that the suspects are part of an interstate theft gang, and authorities are verifying their potential involvement in similar crimes across Odisha and other states.
