JHARSUGUDA: On Thursday, police in Jharsuguda apprehended eight individuals, among them three minors, for allegedly sharing short videos on Instagram that featured knives and intimidating gestures aimed at instilling fear in the community.

The arrested individuals include Sagar Bhainsa (22), Subham Chhanchan (21), Bikash Bhainsa (24), Bikash Pradhan (21), and Samir Soreng (22), in addition to the three minors. Authorities confiscated two knives and a mobile device believed to contain the incriminating videos.

This operation was carried out under Operation NETRA after receiving reports regarding the circulation of such videos on social media. Police formed a team to investigate and trace the individuals who were allegedly involved in creating and posting these reels.

A case has been registered at the Jharsuguda police station in accordance with relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act. While the adult suspects have been arrested, the minors have been placed in an observation home. The investigation is ongoing, according to police.

Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra stated, “Social media is a platform for creativity, not for glorifying weapons, threatening individuals, or instilling fear. The Jharsuguda police are actively monitoring such activities. Anyone attempting to create fear or disrupt public order, whether online or offline, will face stringent legal consequences,” he further emphasized.
