Jharsuguda: The remains of RTI activist Ravi Soni, who had not been seen since Wednesday evening, were recovered from the Ib River in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

Soni’s family reported him missing at the Brajrajnagar police station after he failed to return home that night.

Authorities later discovered his vehicle near a cremation site by the river, though Soni was absent. Following this, police initiated a search operation, enlisting the help of Fire Services and an ODRAF team.

On Friday at approximately 10:30 am, Soni’s body was found floating in the river.

After the body was retrieved, a forensic team was dispatched to the scene for further investigation.

Soni’s wife has accused others of wrongdoing, asserting that her husband was murdered and that his body was disposed of in the river. She pointed out visible injuries on various parts of his body, including the face, nose, hands, head, back, abdomen, and thigh, indicating he may have been assaulted.

Police are exploring all possibilities to ascertain whether Soni’s death was an accident or a homicide followed by the disposal of his body in the river.

Investigators are analyzing his phone records and probing the events leading up to his disappearance. They are also verifying the last-seen theory as part of their inquiry.

The precise cause of death will be determined once the post-mortem report is available and additional forensic analysis is conducted.
