The Jharsuguda Police have taken into custody five young adults and detained three minors for creating and sharing Instagram reels that showcase sharp, lethal weapons, inciting public fear.
This operation was part of ‘Operation Netra’, a focused effort by local law enforcement to monitor digital threats and combat crimes on social media.
The arrested individuals are identified as Sagar Bhainsa (22), Subham Chhanchhan (21), Bikas Bhainsa (24), Bikas Pradhan (21), and Sameer Soreng (22).
The three minors involved have been held at the Town Police Station for further inquiries.
Based on intelligence reports, police conducted raids in various locations throughout Jharsuguda. During these operations, officers recovered two knives featured in the videos, along with the mobile device used to record the content.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police (SP) Gundala Reddy Raghavendra issued a firm warning, stating that social media should serve to highlight creative skills rather than glorifying violence or showcasing dangerous items. He added, “Under Operation Netra, we are enforcing stringent monitoring of online activities. Legal action will be pursued against anyone, whether online or offline, who attempts to disrupt public order or incite fear among the populace.”
A case has been filed at the Jharsuguda Police Station, invoking applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, with further investigations in progress.
