Three Arrested, Including Minor, in Murder of Odisha Driver

Jharsuguda authorities announced the arrest of two adults and the detention of a minor in connection with the murder of Surjan Kumar, a 39-year-old car driver from Gumla district, Jharkhand, who was residing in Muchbahal.

The arrested individuals are Anil Kishan, aged 33, and 26-year-old Dillip Kishan, both from Muchbahal, alongside a 17-year-old juvenile. Kumar’s body was located near the Muchbahal medical road in the Belpahar area on Friday morning.

Following the discovery of the body, the Belpahar police initiated an investigation, filing a case under section 103(1) of the BNS. They quickly assembled a special team to delve into the circumstances surrounding the murder.

Investigators learned that on Wednesday night, Surjan had been drinking when a dispute erupted between him and the accused, stemming from an ongoing personal conflict. During the confrontation, the trio allegedly assaulted him with a stone and a wooden stick, resulting in fatal injuries before fleeing the scene.

Authorities stated that the arrests were made based on technical evidence, including CCTV footage, witness accounts, and various investigative leads. The weapons believed to have been used in the crime, a stone and a wooden stick, have been recovered and are being analyzed for forensic purposes.

Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police GR Raghavendra remarked, “The investigative team’s efforts enabled the resolution of this murder case within 36 hours. We utilized scientific and technical evidence to solve it. A charge-sheet will be filed once forensic and legal procedures are complete, and further investigations are ongoing.”
