Jharsuguda: In a pivotal ruling, the Additional Sessions Judge of Jharsuguda sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment on Thursday for their involvement in a notorious murder case that shocked the district.
The court found Ajit Singh, also known as Mania, Suraj Prasad, and Ajeet Singh, known as Khadi, guilty under Section 302/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and imposed life sentences on each of them. Additionally, each convict was fined Rs 10,000.
Should they fail to pay the fines, the convicts will face an extra six months of rigorous imprisonment. As per the prosecution’s case, the victim, Birbal Pandey, was viciously attacked by the defendants due to prior animosity on September 23, 2020.
During the assault, one of the accused reportedly used a knife, inflicting severe injuries on Pandey, who later died while receiving medical care. An investigation by the Orient Police led to the filing of a chargesheet in court.
Throughout the trial, the prosecution presented 28 witnesses, alongside eyewitness testimonies, medical documentation, scientific evidence, and other records to substantiate the allegations against the accused.
