The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated 11 kg of compressed marijuana, estimated to be worth around ₹5 crore, from the luggage of two passengers arriving from Bangkok at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Tuesday.
The contraband was discovered during a meticulous examination of the baggage of the two individuals who had just landed in the city from Bangkok.
According to officials, the estimated market value of the smuggled drugs is around ₹5 crore.
Currently, the suspects are being interrogated at the airport.
This incident follows a recent case where the district excise mobile unit seized over 70 kilograms of marijuana concealed in a luxury vehicle near the Kuakhai bridge at Kazipatana, falling under the jurisdiction of Cuttack Sadar police. The marijuana in that instance was valued at approximately ₹19 lakh, and three individuals were taken into custody.
Additionally, a significant quantity of marijuana was also found along the roadside adjacent to the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway.
