A devastating road incident occurred on Wednesday morning near Biju Patnaik Chhak within the jurisdiction of Badamal police, resulting in the deaths of two relatives.
The victims have been identified as Anil Rohidas, aged 14, and Tarani Rohidas, aged 39, both from Bhurkhamunda village.
According to police reports, the pair was returning home from Badamal when a coal truck, traveling from Sambalpur, struck their motorcycle. Both individuals died instantly from the impact.
Upon being notified, Badamal police arrived at the scene, where they confiscated both the truck and the motorcycle, and transported the bodies to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The truck driver managed to escape and is currently at large.
Tahasildar Sadakar Kumbar visited the location of the accident and provided Rs 20,000 in ex-gratia assistance from the Red Cross to the victims’ family. Authorities have registered case number 261/2026 and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
