Jharsuguda (Odisha) [India], August 10 (ANI): The Jharsuguda Police apprehended several members of opposition parties, including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress, as they attempted to protest against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dharmendra Pradhan while he was en route to Veer Surendra Sai Airport, according to an official report.
Pradhan has recently faced criticism regarding the NEET-UG examination paper leak and resigned from his position as Union Education Minister following student demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
James Samad, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Jharsuguda, stated that police took the protesters into custody as a preventive measure to avert any potential security issues and maintain order during Pradhan’s travel. The detained individuals were subsequently taken to a nearby police station.
Meanwhile, a significant number of BJP supporters gathered at the airport to welcome Pradhan, resulting in increased political activity in the area.
In light of the anticipated protest, security measures were heightened along the minister’s route and around the airport.
According to Addl. SP Samad, the situation remained calm, and Pradhan was able to access the airport without any hindrance. ‘There was no problem at all. The former Union Education Minister entered the airport. The protesters were not allowed to enter the airport area,’ Samad remarked.
Police enforced a strict security perimeter around the airport to facilitate the minister’s movement and prevent any clashes between opposing political factions. (ANI)
