Bhubaneswar: On Tuesday, the Odisha Cabinet adopted a resolution expressing congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reaching 25 years in government service. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the central government’s developmental projects and infrastructure funding in Odisha.
Modi marked his 25 years in public service on October 7, having previously served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat before assuming the role of Prime Minister in May 2014.
During a media briefing, Majhi noted that under Modi’s leadership, India’s development has gained momentum, with Odisha becoming a focal point in the Centre’s Purvodaya vision for eastern India. He mentioned that since the BJP took power in the state, Modi has visited Odisha eight times.
Majhi underscored the advancements in infrastructure, reporting that Odisha has added 2,236 kilometers of railway lines since 2014, achieving full railway electrification. He stated that the Khurda Road-Balangir railway line is close to completion, and six Vande Bharat trains now serve 17 districts with 25 stops. Additionally, 59 railway stations are undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
The Centre has sanctioned ₹8,308 crores for the construction of a six-lane, 111-kilometer Capital Region Ring Road, along with approximately ₹8,300 crores for the proposed greenfield Odisha Coastal Highway, he added.
Majhi also mentioned anticipated investments of ₹21,500 crores for a deep-sea port at Bahuda mouth in Ganjam district and ₹24,700 crores for a shipbuilding and repair cluster in Kendrapara district.
Projects in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip economic zone, along with the expansion of the Paradip oil refinery and the development of the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region, are expected to drive industrial growth in coastal Odisha.
He highlighted other initiatives including the development of Jharsuguda airport, the establishment of IISER in Berhampur and IIM in Sambalpur, the expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant, and investments in electronics and semiconductor production.
Majhi remarked that the Centre’s developmental agenda prioritizes the empowerment of women, farmers, the underprivileged, and the youth. He claimed that over 25 crore individuals have risen above multidimensional poverty during Modi’s 12 years as Prime Minister.
