Burla (Odisha): TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a collaboration between Tata Power and the Odisha government, has successfully surpassed the milestone of 50,000 rooftop solar installations, with a total of 57,282 systems installed across its nine-district operational area in Western Odisha.
The installations have been facilitated through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and TPWODL’s ULA Model, which aim to enhance access to clean energy and support India’s shift towards sustainability.
In August 2026 alone, TPWODL recorded 9,849 rooftop solar installations, marking the highest monthly total to date, exceeding the previous record of 8,298 installations set in July 2026.
“Crossing 50,000 rooftop solar installations is a significant milestone in Western Odisha’s clean energy journey. Our record monthly performance reflects growing consumer confidence in rooftop solar and the impact of making clean energy more accessible and affordable. We remain committed to enabling more households to participate in India’s clean energy transition,” stated Parveen Verma, Chief Executive Officer of TPWODL.
The districts of Bargada and Nuapada have emerged as the top contributors, with 10,634 and 10,457 rooftop solar installations, respectively. They are followed by Sundargarh (7,856), Balangir (7,577), Sambalpur (6,574), Kalahandi (6,529), Sonpur (3,529), Jharsuguda (3,148), and Deogada (978).
Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible consumers can receive financial support from both the central and state governments for rooftop solar installations. For instance, a 3kW rooftop solar system priced at approximately Rs 2 lakh can qualify for financial aid of up to Rs 1.38 lakh, while a 2kW system costing around Rs 1.40 lakh can receive assistance of up to Rs 1.10 lakh.
Additionally, TPWODL has launched its 1 kW ULA Model, allowing eligible households to install rooftop solar for a nominal fee of just Rs 1,875.
