Jharsuguda: Vedanta Aluminium, the leading aluminium producer in India, celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026 through various biodiversity and afforestation initiatives across its operations in Odisha. The company engaged employees, local communities, students, and grassroots organizations, planting over 1,100 saplings and distributing more than 750 seed balls to aid in natural regeneration.
The focus of the initiative was to enhance green cover, promote indigenous species, and bolster local ecosystems. In addition to the planting activities, the program fostered greater community involvement in environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation. Such initiatives are essential for climate resilience, ecological balance, and sustainable development. This effort exemplifies Vedanta Aluminium’s ongoing dedication to responsible growth and environmental safeguarding.
Van Mahotsav is celebrated annually in the first week of July and stands as India’s premier afforestation movement, promoting collective efforts towards environmental preservation and the safeguarding of natural ecosystems. In alignment with this festival’s ethos, Vedanta Aluminium launched a series of biodiversity enhancement and planting projects throughout Odisha, actively involving employees, students, local communities, and partner organizations. This program not only advanced ecological preservation but also heightened awareness of sustainable environmental practices, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible growth and enduring climate resilience.
Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, commented on the initiative, stating, “At Vedanta Aluminium, environmental responsibility is integral to our growth and operations. Our Van Mahotsav initiatives embody this commitment by uniting employees, communities, and local institutions in support of afforestation and biodiversity conservation. As we strive toward achieving Net Zero carbon emissions, initiatives like these are crucial for enhancing green cover, strengthening ecosystems, and creating lasting environmental value.”
This initiative is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s wider commitment to promoting ecological sustainability in Odisha through afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and community-led environmental actions. The company has implemented large-scale plantation and habitat restoration projects, including the Mo Gachha Mo Parivar campaign in Kalahandi and Rayagada, which aims to plant over 100,000 fruit-bearing saplings and benefit more than 30,000 rural families.
Building on previous afforestation efforts that have added over 120,000 trees in the region, Vedanta continues to collaborate closely with communities, educational institutions, and grassroots organizations to expand green cover, enhance biodiversity, support sustainable livelihoods, and promote long-term climate resilience throughout Odisha.
