The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for significant rainfall across Odisha, particularly in Puri, as a low-pressure system is anticipated to strengthen over the Bay of Bengal.
On Tuesday, the IMD alerted residents of several regions in Odisha, including the pilgrimage city of Puri, of heavy rain expected during the upcoming Rath Yatra, scheduled for July 16. This renowned festival is expected to attract millions of devotees from both India and abroad.
The IMD’s midday bulletin indicates that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coasts of western Bangladesh within the next 24 hours. As a result, Puri is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall starting Wednesday and continuing until Friday morning.
